Georg Bauer
Vice President of BioSciences

Georg Bauer has a broad background in chemistry, with specific training and expertise in key industrial technologies needed for medical applications.  As a PhD at University of Vienna Austria, Georg was able to improve and patent novel surface analytical tests that enabled label-less detection of analytes.  At the Institute of Analytical BioTechnology at the TU-Delft Georg has expanded his research to include biochemical markers.  During his industrial career he has focused on material-sciences and volume manufacturing technologies.  As a head of R&D in different Companies he could establish ways how to make volume manufacturing available during early proof of concept phase, thereby enabling a faster and smooth transfer from research to manufacturing.  Georg currently heads a team of 43 engineers of diverse backgrounds and guides over 25 projects per year, mainly across the Atlantic, building a bridge between European precision manufacturing and US-BioTech Innovation.  
 
Rudi De Winter

Rudi De Winter, CEO of X-FAB Silicon Foundries, is responsible for guiding the company’s Research & Development, Marketing, Sales and Quality efforts worldwide. With 25+ years of experience in the electronics and semiconductor industries, he served as CEO of Melexis N.V. for 15 years. Previously, Mr. De Winter held positions as a development engineer at Mietec Alcatel (Belgium) and as development manager at Elmos GmbH. Since 1990, he also has served as director of Xtrion N.V., the main shareholder of X-FAB Silicon Foundries N.V. Mr. De Winter holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Gent (Belgium).
 
Richard Dixon
Principal Analyst MEMS & Sensors

Richard Dixon is a principal analyst for MEMS and sensors and author of more than 50 MEMS-related consulting and market research studies. He is a world-renowned expert on automotive MEMS and magnetic sensors used in safety, powertrain and body applications. He is also responsible for MEMS sensor coverage in the industrial, medical and aerospace markets at IHS. Along with supporting the overall activities of the MEMS and sensors group, his responsibilities include the development of databases that forecast the markets for more than 20 types of silicon-based sensors in more than 100 automotive applications. In addition, he has supported organizations with future scenarios for sensors in cars and has supported many custom projects for companies in the automotive supply chain. 

In his prior post at WTC, Dixon was a senior MEMS analyst where he led research on physical sensors and was the co-author of the NEXUS Task Force Report for MEMS and Microsystems 2005-2009. He has also led commercialization and road-mapping activities on European Commission-funded technology projects, including detailed MEMS chip cost analysis studies.

Dixon worked previously as a journalist in the compound semiconductor industry and has five years of experience as a technology transfer professional at RTI International, where he provided business and market intelligence for early stage technologies.

Dixon graduated from North Kent University with a degree in materials science and earned a doctorate from Surrey University in semiconductor characterization.

He speaks English and German. 
 
Jean-Christophe Eloy

JC Eloy founded YOLE Développement in 1998 and is the President and CEO of Yole Développement in charge of the international development and strategic orientations of the company.  He is directly involved in the MEMS fields as an advisor of YOLE customers and for M&A activities.  JC and the 30 analysts of YOLE Développement are working directly with the key players of the industry from equipment and materials suppliers to device manufacturers and system integrators in MEMS, power electronics, LED, photovoltaic and compound semiconductor business.

Jean-Christophe has been the manager of the marketing department of CEA/LETI (France) for six years, applied R&D organization involved in the semiconductor, MEMS and instrumentation fields (1500 researchers).  He then created the semiconductor practice at Ernst & Young in Europe and worked as senior manager in charge of the development of European activities.  He is also today board member of several companies in Europe and North America.  Jean-Christophe Eloy is involved since 1991 in the MEMS and semiconductor areas.

JC Eloy is Engineer from INPG/ENSERG (semiconductor and telecommunications) and has a MBA from EM Lyon.  

 
Dr. Jörk Hebenstreit

Dr. Jörk Hebenstreit has been CTO of Testo AG since 2009. He is responsible for the corporate areas research and development, manufacturing, procurement and quality services. In his function, he shapes the technological vision and guides the technology strategy of the enterprise. He is a board member of the German cluster of excellence “MicroTEC SW” which represents one of Europe’s largest networks for microsystem technology.

Before Dr. Hebenstreit joined Testo, he was partner of a strategic business consultancy and vice president of Agfa Laboratory Equipment, besides other leading positions in R&D. Dr. Hebenstreit holds a degree in physics and received his PhD in theoretical physics from the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena.

Dr. Roland Helm joined Infineon in 2003 after working in a technology start-up and in a business consultancy. Since 2006 he is responsible for the MEMS Microphone business. He has been growing the biz from technical feasibility to relevant market share by focusing on customer requirements, leading performance MEMS and ASIC designs as well as high volume manufacturing and delivery capability. He is passionate to match new technology to the needs of modern society.


Roland has a Ph. D. from Technical University of Munich where he majored in physics.

 
Roeland Huys Ph.D.

Roeland studied Microelectronics Engineering at KU Leuven and started his professional career in telecommunications. In 2004, he started his Ph.D. in Life Science Technologies at imec on the topic: "CMOS microelectrode arrays for neurophysiological applications". After receiving his Ph.D. he worked as a Project Manager on commercial applications for on-chip microscopy and integrated biosensors. Today, as a Business Development Manager, Roeland connects advanced nanotechnology R&D with the challenging markets in healthcare innovation.
 
Yannick Lévy

Yannick Lévy is the VP of Corporate Business Development of Parrot. Previously, Yannick headed the Digital Tuner Business Unit of Parrot, renamed from DiBcom that he founded in 2000 as the CEO, and sold to Parrot in 2011. DiBcom has developed the World leading chipsets for Digital TV and Radio reception in Cars and other mobile devices, its chips are used by car makers like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Nissan, Hyundai. Prior to DiBcom, Yannick graduated from Supélec in 1991 and obtained his Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering in 1994 from the University of Notre Dame, U.S.A. He held several positions in R&D, Sales and Management at Sagem, SES Astra and Atmel prior to founding DiBcom.
 
Karen Lightman

Karen Lightman became MEMS Industry Group (MIG) managing director in 2007 and promoted to Executive Director in 2013. Formerly director of special projects, Karen played a pivotal role in launching MIG in January 2001. Karen is active on the worldwide MEMS conference circuit as a keynote speaker and panelist promoting MIG’s role as the leading trade association advancing MEMS across global markets. Karen manages the operations of MIG; spearheads strategic growth; and oversees sales, public relations, marketing and outreach. Karen plays a critical role in creating the content for all MIG and MIG-partner conferences, events and programming. She is instrumental in establishing and maintaining partnerships with other international organizations to advance the MEMS industry.

Karen joined MIG from Carnegie Mellon University's Center for Economic Development where she was senior policy analyst. Prior to Carnegie Mellon, Karen was senior associate at Cleveland Tomorrow, a public-private partnership, and before that, she was a program associate with the Ford Foundation.

Karen has a BA from the University of Vermont (UVM) and a MS in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Karen is a board member and chair of the Board Development Committee of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Pittsburgh and in 2012 received the NCJW National Award for Emerging Leaders. Karen is secretary for her UVM alumni class; mentor at UVM’s Honors College; and volunteers at the Environmental Charter School at Frick Park. Karen and her family reside in Pittsburgh, PA.

 
Dr. Harald Mathis

Dr. Mathis received a degree in physical chemistry in 1994 before getting his doctorate at Institut für Molekulare Biotechnologie (institute for molecular biotechnology), Jena, Germany - at Karolinska Institut, Stockholm, Sweden and at Gesellschaft für Mathematik - und Datenverabeitung (association for mathematics and data processing), GMD, St. Augustin, Germany; PhD in the year 2000. In 2004, he was named head of BioMOS (biomolecular optical systems) – head of department at Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). He gained endowed professorship at HSHL, Germany in industrial informatics and biosystems technology, in 2010.
 
Klaus Meder

Klaus Meder has been President of Automotive Electronics of Robert Bosch GmbH since January 2012. He was born on 24th of January 1962 in Darmstadt, is married and has no children.  He studied telecommunications and electronics at the University of Darmstadt. Klaus Meder was awarded a dregree in telecommunications and electronics in 1987.

Marc Osajda (Moderator)

Prior to this position, M. Osajda was in charge of Freescale Global Automotive Strategy.  He was responsible for market analysis and strategy formulation. 

M. Osajda joined Motorola's European semiconductor business in 1992 as a Design Engineer.  From 1995 to 2004, M. Osajda was involved with the European Automotive industry, respectively as Application Engineer for sensors, Marketing Engineer for sensors and Program Manager for automotive products. 

Marc Osajda holds an engineering degree in mechanics and electronics from the French “Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Arts et Métiers” (ENSAM). 
 
Dr. Eero Punkka (Moderator)

Eero is currently Head of Research Area and the director of VTT Health R&D.  He has 17 years of experience in industry ranging from MEMS and semiconductor technology (Vaisala Technologies/VTI Hamlin) to wellness and sports products and services, (Suunto/Amer Sports) – also in start-up environment (Navigil).  Eero has originally a research scientist (physics) background from Helsinki University of Technology, VTT and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
 
Teemu Rämö

Teemu Rämö joined Nokia in 2005 to develop sensor technologies and applications. Since then he has had the opportunity to lead R&D teams focusing on the cutting-edge interaction technologies, e.g. touch screens 2006-2009 and sensors systems 2009-2011. Currently Teemu is heading audio hardware development for Nokia Lumia devices, and is passionate about revolutionizing the audio capture capability of smart phones.

Teemu received his M.Sc. in applied electrical engineering from Helsinki University of Technology where he majored in bioelectronics.

Dr. Frank Schäfer is senior manager of product management for automotive MEMS sensors at Robert Bosch GmbH in Reutlingen, Germany. Prior to that he held various positions in the MEMS section at Bosch, ranging from semiconductor process development to quality management and marketing. Frank Schäfer joined Bosch in 1999. He holds a PhD and degree in Physics from the university of Würzburg, Germany.  
 
Dr. Andreas Schüle

Andreas Schüle achieved his diploma in 1994 at the University of Stuttgart in the field of biomedical engineering.  In the following years he was involved in development projects in the fields of laboratory automation and clean/hygienic production of medical devices at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA in Stuttgart.

He obtained his doctorate degree for the in-situ detection of microorganism on technical surfaces in the field of hygienic production.
Since 2006 Andreas Schüle is a member of the business development team in the field of Medical Technology and Laboratory Automation at Festo. He is coordinating the strategic product engineering for application-based automation components.
 
Christoph Wagner

Christoph Wagner is Product Marketing Manager for Active Safety products in ADI’s Automotive Segment Team since 2009.

He joined ADI in 2002 as Field Applications Specialist for ADI’s iMEMS© products focusing on automotive safety applications like Airbag and ESC systems.

Prior to his position at ADI he worked in a R&D lab for MEMS technology for 10 years.

Christoph Wagner holds a Diploma in Physics from Technical University in Munich.
