AMGA 2013 Institute for Quality Leadership
Managing the Total Cost of Care

September 25-27, 2013

As the healthcare industry responds to the post-Affordable Care Act landscape and the transition to new payment models, medical group leaders are facing the challenge by reengineering care processes, implementing new technology, reexamining what data is available for analysis, and finding new ways to engage patients in their care. Underpinning these challenges is the need to determine and manage the total cost of care to achieve and maintain financial viability.  As care delivery systems strive to develop high-performing health systems, leaders are finding that managing the total cost of care requires new population health strategies that encompass new technology, data analytics, clinical process improvement, aligned compensation programs, and financial strategic planning to navigate the transition from volume to value.

This year’s Institute for Quality Leadership (IQL) Annual Conference will offer a deeper examination of the challenges of managing the total cost of care.  Leaders from innovative groups will present successful routes they have taken to lower costs by improving resource use or shifting to less expensive but equally effective resources.  They will share their strategies for clinical and financial success, and provide tangible tools to aid your group in becoming a high-performing health system.  Reflecting the team-based approach that has guided their efforts, a series of provocative panel discussions will examine best practices in clinical care, provider engagement, shared decision making, and emerging payment models.

In addition, four AMGA Leadership Councils will be convening at the conference:  The AMGA Leadership Councils are networks of individuals in leadership positions within AMGA member medical groups who share ideas, strategies, and information with colleagues facing similar challenges.

Don’t miss these opportunities to learn from the organizations on the vanguard of delivering value-based care to the populations they serve and to craft your own route to tomorrow’s health care.
What is the Institute for Quality Leadership?

The Institute for Quality Leadership (IQL) is devoted to improving the quality of care delivered in the US healthcare system through the advancement of knowledge and the education of healthcare professionals. Its programs are designed to help healthcare organizations improve clinical quality, patient safety, service, and operational efficiency, and to share best practices in patient care. The IQL is supported by the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) and its 501(c)(3) philanthropic affiliate, the American Medical Group Foundation (AMGF). For over 60 years, the AMGA has been the most effective voice in advocating for the multispecialty medical group model of coordinated care delivery. The members of AMGA are world leaders in quality improvement and have embraced the need to transform the healthcare system. Through innovation and leadership, these medical practices are rising to the challenge put forth by the Institute of Medicine to redesign patient care delivery systems to provide patients the care they need, want, and deserve. To support their efforts, the AMGF was formed as the philanthropic arm of AMGA to develop grant programs, quality awards, research, and education programs and to provide support for initiatives that exemplify the continuing quest for quality care. AMGF is the primary supporter of the Institute for Quality Leadership Annual Conference and AMGA’s quality improvement activities. To learn more about AMGF, visit www.amga.org/foundation.
